Score One for the Tagesschau

by PapaScott on 28 July 2004

All the US blogs I’ve read on the DNC have raved about the keynote by Barack Obama, but he hasn’t been mentioned in any German media at all… except the new Tagesschau blog. No feed, no permalinks, but they might have something right. (No, I haven’t seen the speech yet. It’s in Windows Media format, and I haven’t sat at a Windows machine yet today.)

CSPAN has it in RealPlayer. Try there. I played it. Twice.

Thanks, got it, and played it. Obama lives up to the hype.

impressive speech, no doubt.

and since i’m an ugly anti-american, i liked this one best: “that is the true genius of america… [...] that we can participate in the political process without fear of retribution and that our votes will be counted… at least most of the time.” ;-)

Yep – the evil Republicans were responsible for the Democratic candidate losing Florida as well as his home state.

PapaScott 29 July 2004 at 19:07

And now the evil Republicans are so ashamed, they can’t even find a candidate to oppose him this fall.

Declan 29 July 2004 at 19:07

Uh, sure.

Evil Republicans ain’t the half of it, jaded beyond belief is the rest of it. I mean, his opponent needed “extra sauce” to get it going with Seven of Nine!? Declan: explain your kind (I assume) to the rest of us.

Vasili’s comment quoted Obama’s speech which alluded to the tired canard that not all votes were counted in 2000. I replied by stating that had the Dem’s candidate successfully carried his own state, Florida would have been water under the bridge. Scott followed up with a side remark impling that all GOPs should be ashamed for Mr. Ryan’s sexual disposition (maybe she stinks in the sack? kidding.) which really doesn’t amount to anything. It’s evident that most politicians or would-be politicians have skeletons to hide. I do remember one fellow from my home state by the name of Torecelli.

OK, I give up. I normally avoid commenting on US politics, but on this occasion, I can resist no longer…

Scott writes “I mean, his opponent needed “extra sauce” to get it going with Seven of Nine!?” Who is this man? And is he getting his much-needed medical attention? Or when is he expected to come out of the closet? That’s as clear an either/or there as I’ve ever seen.

PapaScott 03 August 2004 at 22:08

@Declan Yes, I made a snide comment just for the sake of making a snide comment. This time I’m guilty as charged (although I wasn’t thinking of Ryan in particular… rather that the Republicans should be ashamed of themselves simply for being evil). I wasn’t being particularly serious. It didn’t exactly help keep the discussion on track, though, so I apologize for that.

Returning to subject, what impressed me about his “most of the the time” comment was how vague and subdued it was. I’ve never bought the “Bush stole Florida” argument, since I don’t think the Democrats would have acted any differently had the tables been turned.

@Eagle, Google will tell you all about Obama’s ex-opponent for US Senate.

Scott – this is your blog. Feel free to distribute smackdowns as necessary. :)
