I’m pretty sure a Volga German would take great exception to being referred to as a “Russian immigrant”!
@shamrock: Not true in my experience. Likely reasons: 1. language – most of these immigrants (except some of the older generation) did not speak any German before coming here, and 2. most people here call them Russians no matter what (this includes people from other XUSSR republics too). There may be exceptions of course, I don’t know that many XUSSR-Germans but I’ve met a few.
@papascott: totally off-topic, have you seen the “Dumme Amis, schlaue Amis” article in Die Zeit?

It seems to address some anti-American myths but does it go far enough in dispeeling them? As I have never seen the inside of an American high school, I’d be interested in your opinion.
