Our new neighbors weren’t so lucky. They had recently moved in and had “new” fake bamboo, too. It was torn to shreds. Pieces of it were laying all over the place.

There doesn’t appear to be any significant damage around here. Some minor stuff — garden sheds blown apart, flagpoles torn down, lots of stuff laying all over the place (garbage cans, water barrels, tarps, lawn furniture, kids’ toys, etc. — things that should have been taken inside with a storm like this).

Here at home things were relatively quiet overnight, the worst of the storm had already past.

My biggest worry is that the “new” fake bamboo that I put up on our balcony last Fall will be ripped to shreds (like the “old” fake bamboo was) — that fake stuff isn’t cheap! So far, it seems to be holding up. There is a small section that has started to unravel, though (leaving a 4 or 5 inch gap). With the intensity picking up again, it wouldn’t surprise me if I went to bed with the small section unravelling only to wake up in the morning and find the whole thing ripped to shreds.

It’s loud and windy here, but I suspect things are worse in central Germany, further south.

The storm in Weimar is pretty bad–I hate to imagine what it’s like where it is really bad.
