Pregnancy Report
[This is the earliest record I have of what would later become PapaScott. We tried out Blogger for a few weeks in Aug/Sep 1999. The upcoming birth of our son was of course our main theme. The graphics have all been lost. Amazingly, these entries were still in the Blogger database in May 2003. In Oct/Nov 1999, I switched to using Zope with the Squishdot product,
but those archives have now been lost. PapaScott as we now know it began in Dec 1999.]

Addition to our fleet
(Translation of Mama's entry from Wednesday)
Yes, we've really already bought a baby carriage. After my sister-in-law gave us a quick course in the multi-functionality of such devices, We were ready to start our search.
In my opionion, new baby carriages are just like new cars that you plan to drive for only one year. In the same way, with
all necessary extras, they are very expensive. As thrifty as young new parents are supposed to be, we decided on a
maintained-by-the-book one-year-old used model. At the children's flea market in neighboring Marxen, we found what
we were looking for. Colorful design, metallic green paint, manual 4-wheel drive, ABS, sport alloy wheels, tinted sun protection umbrella, rain covering, and with just a few twists the carriage turns into a convertable. Not only that, but the model is also exempt from the new German 'Eco-Tax'.

Fuhrparkerweiterung

Ultraschallkommentare
Malchus schreibt "Es stimmt also wirklich!
Comments on the ultra sound pictures
Malchus writes "It's really true. The ultra sound pictures finally convinced me!"
So there really must be some similarities with the parents!
Christoph writes "I'm really excited about the clear picture of your baby. The straight spine must be a trait of the mother, even though Mama's spine will become more bent over the next months, as this extra person in her stomach will continue to weigh more."
Does any one else have more helpful problems on how to deal with the growing masses?

Lost and found
As long as I have the scanner running, we recently discovered this Minneapolis streetcar token
in our washing machine. We must have bought it in the 80s or so, and we have no idea why it suddenly turned up now.
Mama thinks she knows why it turned up a day before our 16th wedding anniversary: on September 6th, 1983 we took the MTC bus downtown to the courthouse. Indeed, it was a low-budget ceremony as we continued on to the INS building to apply for Mama's Green Card after we gave our vows before the judge. Insiders will remember that we stopped for lunch at the McDonald's Mama had started to work at a week earlier. She had a nice boss who gave her the day off without any problem.

Over the weekend we scraped paint and wallpapered the guest room, the last upstairs bedroom to be done this summer. Now we just have to paint, and we have no more house projects until Day X in December. Earlier we had done our work/computer room and the future baby's room.

Roswitha's Pancakes
Apfelmus."
Our friend Roswitha tried out the American Pancake recipe. She trippled the recipe and it served 1 adult and 2 children for lunch. She prefers apple sauce over maple sirup.
This goes to show you don't have to be pregnant to enjoy the pancakes.

COOKING FOR THE PREGNANT
(This is the English version of Mama's German recipe below.)
Today: American Pancakes
Ingredients for 6 Pancakes (diameter 10 cm) - enough for 2 adults. For
the pregnant increase the recipe by 50%.
100 g white or whole wheat flour (good for constipation)
1/2 envelope Dr. Höcker baking powder
1 dash salt
2 tablespoons sugar
1 free-running egg
150 ml whole milk
3 tablespoons melted butter or oil
maple syrup
- In a bowl mix flour with baking powder, salt and sugar.
- In a small bowl beat the free-running egg to unconsciousness. Then add milk and butter and beat again. Mix in the flour mixture with a wire whip. (The dough might seem somewhat lumpy, but that's OK).
- Heat frying pan and lightly grease (or in reverse order)
- With a small scoop add about 50 ml. dough per pancake into the pann and cook at medium heat. When the edges start to become dry (after about 50 sec), turn and cook for another 30 sec.
Serving suggestions:
Mama's Short Stack
Stack 3 pancakes on top of each other, buttering each layer well.
Add warm maple syrup (alternatively fresh strawberries or strawberry jam, but then change the title to Mama's Strawberry Pancakes). According to your cholesterol value the recipe can be increased to
Mama's Big Breakfast
Short Stack plus fried egg and according to taste 2 to 3 strips fried bacon
Neu on our menu:
Mama's Buttermilk Pancakes
Simply replace the whole milk with buttermilk and you'll be in 7th heaven!

KOCHEN FÜR SCHWANGERE
Heute: American Pancakes
Zutaten für 6 Pancakes (Durchmesser 10 cm) - genug für 2 Erwachsene. Für
Schwangere das Rezept um 50% erhöhen.
100 g Weizen- oder Vollkornmehl (gut gegen Verstopfung)
1/2 Tüte Dr. Höcker Backpulver
1 Prise Salz
2 Eßlöffel Zucker
1 freilaufendes Ei
150 ml Vollmilch
3 Eßlöffel geschmolzene Butter oder Öl
Ahornsirup
Mama's Short Stack
3 Pancakes aufeinander türmen, jede Lage gut buttern.
Mama's Big Breakfast
Himmel!

Hello Dad,
thought I'd tell you about my day so far. Things started out rather
active. Mom drove to Buchholz for some shopping. On the way there we
stopped at the recycling bins in Reinfeld. It was pretty noisy when she
dropped the empty glass in the bin. We got a parking spot at Aldi right
away. Lots of fruit there for me. Then we got gas at the tiger station
across the street. I don't like the smell of gasoline though. Our next
stop was at famila. It sounds like a great place to shop for young
families.
I could hear other babies and children outside. Then their mothers would
often say:"Faß das nicht an. Komm her!" and so on. It must be a game of
some sort. I will try that later on, too! At famila we stocked up on
dairy stuff and other things we couldn't get at Aldi. Mom also got a can
of chili beans. Maybe we'll get something with beans for dinner. After
famila we drove home. Mom unpacked and then things got very quiet soon.
She laid down on her favorite sofa and started on a mystery. I think
after she finished her 2 kiwis, the peach and the a strwberry-vanilla
yoghurt she fell asleep. I was being nice and kept a low profile myself.
Now we're moving around again. Just checked the netlife stock and even
though I can't see her face I think there was a big smile. Maybe we'll
finally go outside and enjoy the wonderful weather.
Well, so much for now. Have a fun afternoon at the office.
CRH (I'll keep using those initials until I'm told otherwise!)
